My resolution of trying to post something in this journal daily has not succeeded terribly well. I had an astonishly productive day yesterday, during which I whittled away at the Desk of Damnation [thank you, vyrdolak1998 for the inspiration for that], but said productivity cost me writing time and unwinding time, as well as necessitating my previous post about taking a bye in therealljidol. I'd hoped to save my byes for the days I'll be away for philcon.
I need to be able to string productive days together. I will count today as productive if I can get out and make a dent in leaf-raking and leaf-blowing, because our street will have curbside pickup next week.
So it comes back to catch-up in this journal. Bullet points commence.
* A very belated "Happy birthday" to oberonia, and good natal wishes today for jarien.
* Welcomes to new Gentle Readers jack_batelin, moonhot97, and karmasoup, and to returning Gentle Reader minikin.
* Lots of news about audiobook titles at mikescomics from BBC Audio. If you're looking for other titles, including non-genre stuff from the Radio Collection, please drop me a line. In addition, we just got in "The War Games", which is Patrick Troughton's swan song as The Second Doctor, and is a story that works just as well today... I can easily see it fitting the current WHO format as spanning an entire season/series. Matt Smith/11th Doctor writers, take notice. Especially if a certain warlike planet found itself UNQUARANTINED after the Time War... the storytelling possibilities could be quite intriguing. You're welcome.
* We just finished "The Silurians" as part of our DOCTOR WHO rewatch, and with each viewing, I become more and more impressed with the character of Doctor Lawrence as played by Peter Miles. There's a lot of nuances there that aren't apparent on first viewing, and he is not just a single-minded head honcho. In fact, he's quite a tragic figure, and a lot of credit must go to the writer, the director and to the actor. I can find the character extremely relatable at the moment.
* My plans for my attendance at Philcon 2009 are coming together. I have my accommodations and my travel arrangements set; this weekend I am working on what needs to be packed - not merely clothing, but press materials and notes for what possible panels I may be on.

After much indecision, I got my hair cut yesterday. It is still, by most people's standards, long, although I feel somewhat like I'm forsaking the sisterhood. You can clearly see in the pictures where there's a line about halfway down. Above that it's nice and thick; below that it gets wispier as it goes. I knew that it did, but don't think I realized how badly until I saw the pictures. I had surgery four years ago and was on a liquid diet for weeks, and it shows in my hair-that line. Lori cut it right in the middle of the thick spot, so now I've got nice thick blunt ends. It's short enough to be swingy, long enough to go back or up (right now I've got the front pulled up off my face) and I have bangs, not forehead. In short, I love it, and I have no regrets. I may eventually let it grow out again from here, but for now, I'm going to enjoy it where it is. ( before and after )Feelin'...: satisfied

well here in central new york ...it's already time to gear up for winter! my hair is getting super dry and i'm not sure what to do. background: a month and a half ago i have to trim it from bsl to just below collar bone length. My hair is pretty damaged but i want to wait until after may(my wedding) before i cut it all off and start fresh! -i trim every 3 months -i wash every 2-3 days with -cone free shampoo and conditioner. -i rarely heat style (maybe one or two times a month..and it's a quick blow dry then) -i don't brush my hair a lot..i mostly finger comb and let air dry (i do own a bbb but i hate the way my hair looks/feels after i use it) -i do dye my hair..i just use the semi perm commercial dyes (though i am stopping until the spring) - i am improving my diet to try and help promote healthy hair/skin/nails -i mostly wear my hair up is there anything i can do to not make it so dry? would coconut oil help? i know it's most likely from the dye damage..but i just need to maintain until may. thanks! Feelin'...: curious

...I feel like my hair is all different types at once! So I'm sort of looking for advice, sort of seeing if anyone else has the same kind of problems...
my hair is:
-very greasy at the roots -mainly straight, but... -has short curly bits around my hairline (where a fringe would be) -is dry underneath (in the bits would be at the bottom of my ponytail, near my neck) -and therefore frizzy almost to the point of being wavy underneath, while being straight like I'd straightened it on the top!
I don't brush my hair when its wet, just comb it, never straighten it, don't blow dry it..I do usually tie it up when its wet, but if I don't and just let it dry naturally it goes more frizzy...aaah...
Its so frustrating...I can't buy "hydrating" shampoo for dry hair, as I don't want to get anything like that near my greasy roots...at the moment I use Body Shop Nettle Shampoo on the roots, and Aussie Long Hair conditioner on the rest of it, does anyone have any good recommendations for things to stop it being so frizzy, but also stopping it being so greasy! (both at the same time!) . Any ideas for "household" things to use would be useful as well! Even if I have to put up with having vinegar on one part and mayonnaise on the other part...or whatever you helpful people recommend! :)
ps Picture will be added when I get on my home computer :)
